KBIC Even Start Family Literacy
Located on the L'Anse Reservation of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, our family literacy program has the distinction of being the only Tribal Even Start program in Michigan.
The KBIC Even Start Family Literacy Program is designed to address the unique educational needs of each family through the integration of four essential components:
Early Childhood Education
Adult Education
Parent Education
Parent-Child Literacy Activities (ILA)

Our family literacy program supports the belief that the parent is a young child's first and most important teacher. It is our mission to help parents build a strong educational foundation for family success in the home, school, and workplace upon the strengths of the Ojibwa culture within an intergenerational learning community.-

FREE GED SERVICES FOR TRIBAL MEMBERS
Space is limited!
KBIC members who need their GEDs can now come to the KBIC Family and Early Education Center. Thanks to the tribal council, our program is now offering GED instruction for tribal members. We can provide free GED test preparation for any adult Tribal member! Call us at 353-8161, or stop by the new center across from KBOCC for information. Hurry, because this program is only good until September 2012!

Mission Statement
The Mission of KBIC Even Start FAMILY LITERACY PROGRAM is to build a strong educational foundation for family success in the home,
school, and workplace through an integrated, culturally responsive literacy program designed to enhance community services for promoting family
achievement.
To accomplish our mission we will:
Assist parents in developing their role as their child's first and most important teacher
Strive to remove barriers to family educational achievement
Build upon the strengths of the Ojibwa culture through an intergenerational learning community
