Tribal Transportation Planning Committee

One of the key elements of Keweenaw Bay's BIA Comprehensive Tribal Transportation Planning contract is a planning committee with membership from internal Tribal Departments that have vested interest in, and impact on, tribal transportation infrastructure such as land-use, development, housing, sewer/water, electricity and roads. On June 2, 2003, the Tribal Council approved the membership of the Tribal Transportation (TTP) Committee to include representatives from Tribal Realty, Economic Development, Natural Resources and Maintenance (sewer & water) departments and from the Ojibwa Housing Authority. Mike LaFernier, Tribal Vice-Chairman, will represent the Tribal Council involvement on the TTP Committee. A Community-At-Large representative will be selected from Community members who express interest to participate in the TTP Committee. An invitation was extended to Doug Mills, Baraga County Roads Commission, to request the County's participation as an ex-officio member.

The first meeting is scheduled for 3:00 PM on Thursday, June 26, 2003, to be held at the Keweenaw Bay Office of Planning & Development. This first meeting will be an introductory meeting to review the activities necessary to me et the requirements of the BIA Comprehensive Tribal Transportation Planning contract, which include the development of a short and long-term transportation plan. We will also discuss a regular time and place to meet, as the TTP Committee will need to maintain regular, recurrent meetings and document their proceedings through minutes as a requirement of the contract. The TTP Committee is a permanent Tribal Committee. A schedule of upcoming TTP Committee Meetings will be posted in the near future.
