SERVICES:           The Education Department has two programs.

1.  BIA Higher Education - provides scholarships to college students.

2.  Sovereign Student Fund - provides assistance to college students.

ELIGIBILITY:

1.  BIA Higher Education - applicants must be enrolled KBIC tribal members; Michigan residents attending Michigan two or four-year colleges in pursuit of an associate or bachelors degree. Applicants must apply for federal financial aid and meet the application deadline of May 1.  This is a need-based program

2.  Sovereign Student Fund - applicants must be enrolled KBIC members and either a graduate of L’Anse or Baraga High School or a resident of Baraga, Houghton, Marquette or Ontonagon counties for 12 consecutive months.  Students may be full or part-time and must maintain this status while earning a minimum G.P.A. of 2.00, which may be cumulative.  This is an incentive program.
